Well yeah, but resetting characters without resetting the map would suck, and when you reset map you can't reset it again in short time or you'll drive away half the player base. We've been living fine with the current broken combat system (and now crafting system as well), I think we could survive postponement of LP overhaul till map generation is redone as well.

IMHO, both of these items should be developed in parallel in secret, and some small features that don't take much time should be tossed out every now and then to keep us entertained while they're working on the next big reset.

i didnt mention anything about multiple resets

LP and combat should be developed before mapgen, whether or not they are actually released first. the reset should only come with the new map and it should be a total reset

Well, as I understand it, after animal domestication is finished, they will start working on the quest system. Once the quest system is in place (which is how skill will be earned after the reset) they can start working on a new map generator, and fixing all the other stuff.

I hate quests in MMO's. They always have a rather large tendency to suck major ass and end up being repetitive. I'm not certain that replacing bear / clay/ loom grinding with quest grinding is going to resolve anything. I'd certainly like to experience a test run of the new system before a major reset if possible.

I actually like how it is now. You earn points for doing stuff so no matter what you do, you end up getting some LP. I mean damn, I got 20k LP out of just setting up a new farming area. Took me a few hours and I would've been better off farming but at least I earned something extra from doing it all (beyond a farming area).

Now if farming granted farming LP, sewing granted sewing LP so you had to do that task to get better at it... People would still probably hunt bears. :)

Truth is, whatever system you end up with, there will be a way to grind it and people will grind it. It's just replacing current grinding with "that one particular quest that gets massive LP" grinding.

My understanding is that the dev's intend to replace the LP system completely, so I wouldn't expect the quests to be "grindable"

In fact I'd expect it to be more of two different quest catagories
1 - Learn a new skill quest -> gather ingredients to make something in the new skill to a certain point, perform some fancy ritual, possibly involving multiple players, HURRAY you've just learned a new skill that you can now teach to other people.
2 - Something has randomly happened that affects your character/claim/village/equipped item -> perform a ritual, maybe be in the right spot at the right time, maybe find the right person, maybe gather some equipment, HURRAY whatever happened is now resolved for good or for bad.

Point being that these quests are not "visit this NPC in this place, or fulfill these published requirements that GARANTEE you will get this quest, then kill 10 bears or pick 1000 grain and I'll give you 10,000,000LP" but rather either quite quick quests that act more as tutorials than barriers to skills (except the black arts, those should be massive barriers that traumatise players on those quests) or they act as weird effects with multiple different resolution options, once again not just handed out willy nilly according to some published protocol, but more happening when the stars align and certain factors are in place and also because the RNG says so.

bonus points if quests involve multiple players for resolution

If the RNG decides to never give me farming or sericulture I will walk to Sweden and burn down the server. Seriously, that shit would be worse than ultrarare loot drops, because ultrarare loot tends to be non-essential.

why change this original aspect (lp) of the game and replace it by by a feature (quest grinding) most other games already have.
the lp system is just fine to me even it will take ages (by not hunting) to get a skil to 200 or such.
i think most players dont have much problems with the current lv up system.
