Looks at watch... Wait, wasn't D3 supposed to be out a year ago?

Don't worry about it, remember how on time Diablo 2 was? We'll be fine.

Completely off topic, but...

Damn!! I'm sooo tempted to buy a year sub to WoW just to get D3!

I thought that all Blizzard games' release date is "when it's done" :?:

Not for WoW. First they announce new patch or expansion but we always know when to expect it to come out. For example, next expansion is planned to be out in about of 6 months or less. They of course announce it there will be any late publish or not.

Salem aside, I think at some point big corporations will start pushing the idea of permadeath survival mmo types soon enough... The mmorpg genre is starting to get repetitive or boring to look at.

The issue is really the 'target audience' that they want to get... Every publisher 'wants as many customers as possible', so working with the permadeath survival idea is really hard until sometimes soon I guess.

Based on what I see, publishers are like copycats, mimicking each other's idea and ripping them off in the name of profiting... Only on rare occasions you see something really unique or creative come out of the mmo industry.

I think we'll see permadeath, but without massively built up characters. Nobody wants to lose a character they spent 3 weeks on, but a 2 day old character? no biggie. Make death inevitable, and instead of a few, mostly similar endgames, have many diverse ones that are relatively easy to reach.

I'm not convinced we'll ever see permadeath MMO's from big publishers.

But I could see "Sandbox Themepark" MMOs coming from big publishers, similar to Archeage. Games like WoW need a reason for players to stick around, and player owned property and certain elements of the sandbox genre could be crossed with the themepark genre to address that.

Oh man, I sure how we get to mostly kill 3 week+ old characters. Killing/Losing 2 day old alts/newbies is boring.
