I don't think it's fair to ever link city production and character improvement. No one chips stone, paves, and builds massive fucking brick walls for lp. You do it because your village needs you to help with it or you'll all fail and die. You can claim that you did all you'd like but in those 48 hours where you earned a whopping total of 15k lp, I punched a bear in the throat and earned 18k for hunting for 15 minutes. Congratulations, your 48 hours of work are almost equal to my 15 minutes -- and this is Not a gross exaggeration. Hell, who needs a bear, a pack of deer or some common boar would work fine too.
The point being that the disparity was always too large. For those of us that had to build our villages up from the ground, it is a huge pain in the ass knowing that because you've helped set your kilns up and established trade to get enough metal, clay, and coal to equip everyone with decent tools and gear, you're now about half as strong as anyone else in the village. The old system gimped and punished you for doing any kind of civil work.
