It's not like players didn't grief others by chopping all the trees by them in world 4 before, just that it was more "pointed" grief, and usually in retaliation of a crime or during a settlement wipe of criminals/political enemies/people you didn't like.

This has been a valid means of griefing since W2, I believe. Rumor has it, back then you couldn't even replant your trees~
In W3, it was how newbies who didn't want to do anything earned lp, so we had massive bald spots where ever newbies spawned. Edit: I nearly forgot, cup grinding~!
In W4, it was how you earned any lp, go go bucket grinding~!
In W5, it'll be purely for griefing again.
