Any thoughts about including a feature similar to the XMPP event notifications?

I am ok talking about extra features and all the amaing bells anf wistles, but after we see what is going on with the game when its out in the open and playable. There likely will be a burst of ideas and thoughts on how it runs when its out. I rather see them focus on getting it ready for that point then not.

The XMPP notifications were a cool thing though, I can't remember why that ended up getting removed. I think perhaps it just stopped working at some point and loftar couldn't be bothered to fix it but don't quote me on that.

In any case, it would be interesting to see what it would be like to play this game with such an implementation included from the get go and how that would play out with respect to crimes. In the past it notified you of trespasses and force summons.

Didn't that essentially shut down 100% of criminal activity across the world? The only crimes left to commit were with through throwaway alts that were meant to be one shot by a guy with an r-bow.

Not that I can recall, I thought most people who utilized that feature rather enjoyed it because in a game like this more often than not the action starts taking place while you're offline and this way they were able to get a notification to let them know something was going on and they could hop on and possibly intervene. On the flip side of that though I remember it also causing some players who were being raided to log on and end up losing their character where as if they hadn't been notified they probably would have a character left to play with at the very least.

It has its pros and cons and could have certainly used some fine tuning but I think it's something to consider.

I'm not entirely sure why we shut XMPP notifications down, either, and I think we're at least considering bringing them back. For sure, the system is alive, well, and maintained. It's the same system that notifies me of server crashes and such things.

As for summoning, we're strongly considering changing that to a system where one simply cannot log off as long as there are clues left to crimes that you committed.

Would that not create a system where a person can not stay on and then have to leave their character to possibly die of starvation since they can not be there to feed them? If it were not for that I would have no issue with it.
