So maybe the worst of the lag was from a hard drive in its death throes? The technical discussion intrigues me. Please continue! :D

me (North american east pacific) and same living friends and polish friends have all noticed a massive decrease in the lag. we concluded by measuring out the lags before and now it's like 70-75% less spikes and less brutal spikes when they do happen.

I'd say, whatever you doing, it is doing the work of god.

Glad to be able to play without banging my head on the keyboard.

The lag is exactly the same for me as it was pre-hd replacement...which is to say unplayable.

The lag has lifted a bit for me. Not as much since before the hd replacement.

Still laggy but not as much lag now :P

No, it gives the source address, not the destination address. ;)

no, mate, it gives both.

Well, it does, and it is what I use to receive the destination address, but it only does so with extension that aren't in POSIX. The recvmsg() that is defined by POSIX does not give the destination address. Right now I'm using Linux-specific extensions to fetch the destination address of packets, but if I were to use FreeBSD, I'd have to use BSD-specific extension instead, which is one of the things I was referring to by porting. :)

Which is indeed precisely what I'm using it for. :)

I beg to differ. It's fluncuating throughout the day. Right now, it's strong lags, every 10-15 seconds. And they last for at least 7 seconds. So it's starting to feel like one never-ending lag spike. It's "playable" in the sense of swapping curios. But go try to fight a deer or bear. You'll quickly learn combat is no where near playable. Considering that 80% of the players enjoy the PVP/PVE content, that's not good. I'm not trying to complain, but I haven't seen much of an improvement since the HDD replacement. Just reporting in how the game is running for me right now.

good, at least you listening and answering.

do you understand, what your method of reliable delivery messages over UDP is the worst method in the world?
i mean - spamming packet until peer ack.

If you are implying that there is a better way to handle packet loss than retransmission, then do feel free to educate me and the rest of the networking world. :)

Otherwise, I think you would instead want to elaborate upon the specifics of my retransmission scheme.

But in all seriousness please tell me that this is something that can be fixed "prior" to the release of Salem as the game is unplayable now and this is coming from possibly the only person never to rage quit Haven..... What in God's name 300+ people are doing on right now is beyond me but I can barely switch out curios.....

If I knew what the actual cause of the problem is, I could perhaps answer that. ;)
