At last some more people will find how pious and right is life in wilderness, without sins of intrique and rivalry over things which have no value in faith of Ring of Brodgar.

Cheese and sorbid shiny metals they say! Life with carrot, onion, bread and humble waiting for end of this world I say!

The endeavor to understand is the first and only basis of virtue.

ummm, gotta love nutters.

Anyhoo, so I tried it myself, made a char, was plopped down on the outskirts. Toiled, made a boat, searched all over but no grassland, knocked out a couple times by X bears. Found mudflats (only thing within miles in any direction). Yeah seeds, carrot, flax, onions, hops and poppy. None of which are worth anything without wheat save flax for string. Without wheat there is no cooking...yawn. So thought and wondered, cave was right above my fire, no biggy as searching for mine would be a bilion 2 1 chance anyway and if there was one in there it would 45 minuted back in the dark as most have said, cave mine = worthless anyway.
Then realized of course being so far out there was no where to warp to get assistance (Brodgar way too far for warp) and I sure aint chasing chickens for 2 months to reach 40+ agi. (no agi food because no wheat anywhere in wide distance, never heard of anyone seeing wild wheat anyway..lol).

All in all I then realized I was bored crapless and wondered "why the hell was I doing this tedious crap again?" Oh yeah, to see what a newb would face. Guess it wouldn't have been too bad if I had a fishing pole that worked (guess that's too simple a fix to be entertaining enough to actually fix, not to mention it doesn't nerf anything or make anything more tedious so why bother) So its carrots and mulberry or tedious double click apples to eat.

Well 3+ hours is enough of that..back to my town, too much work to do there...lol

wild wheat is out there, i'm pretty sure it's on grasslands. same with wild grapes. i don't seem to have grassland near me, so the search continues.

and uh, a fishing pole that works? i was fishing as soon as i got to a body of water... starting fishing pole, spindly taproot for a string, rabbit or chicken bone for a hook, dig some worms or make a woodfish or a rock lobster. i've been eating tons of fish.

Fishing needs some sort of minigame or something. As it is it's just frustratingly boring... much like fishing IRL. ;)

Minigame yeah because those never grow annoying after playing them a couple of times. How about we get nets instead so we don't have to spend days fishing just to gain 1 fep.

I'd argue that the entire game consists of little minigames.

EDIT: Then again, I do lose interest after a while, so you do have a point.

It'd be kind of neat if you saw shadows of fish when you approached water and tried to catch them with a line or a net, instead of success being based on some obscure formula. Also finding frogs and snakes and crayfish and things. Could also find stuff like shells when digging for clay.

of course whatever spawns could still be based on formulae

 all fish have base FEP of at least 2. if you get some better gear you can get x2 or x3 the base FEP fairly easily. it would be nice if the base FEP were a little more, or if they would add some fishing recipes other than roasting over a fire, or if the amount of time were shortened for each cast of the line and/or the roasting speed was increased and/or oven roasting were an option.
