Then how about some sort of greenhouses? Apparently Rome was already greenhouse'ing cucumbers back in it's glory days so it's a pretty old technology.

Not as old as the Ice Age, but we could get around it with some hearth magic. ;)
We are a pawn of something greater: Memes.

With new world plants, spectacles, monocles, porcelin...its more a Renaissance era near the colonial period.

I would love to see some more tribal related features. Germans used to be tribal right? And hearth magics.

If i remember well, by then there wasnt germans there, even the natives are not the same ones. Teutons, francs and other tribes crossed the continent in the middle age conforming the actual inhabitants of half europe. German is a XX century word.

"The concept of Germany as a distinct region in central Europe can be traced to Roman commander Julius Caesar, who referred to the unconquered area east of the Rhine as Germania, thus distinguishing it from Gaul (France), which he had conquered"

Your memory sucks, try 2000+ years.
