I've changed my tune a little after having this argument several times and it's unfortunate but there will never be any form of client side security that prevents someone from hacking/modifying the client.

Server side security and active in-game policing are probably the best and only methods in fighting against bots but it's not really anything we can expect to see from Jorb and Loftar. Not for lack of trying on our part, though.

I was in no way advocating client side security. i was saying maybe it was possible to NOT STOP, but merely RECOGNIZE in some way if someone was using a bot or custom client, the fix would be that you would accrue LP through possible achievements for not using a custom client. Also: As I pointed out, this was just something tacked onto the end of an idea I had, it wasn't the meat of what I was saying. I personally could give a rats ass if people do or don't use custom clients, botting or whatever the fuck. But hey! if Painhertz posts it lets all gang tackle him!

I know you weren't saying anything specific like client-side security or whatever but that is what I believe would have to happen in order to implement something that detects the use of bots or botting programs, you need some type of client-side security such as hackshield or gameguard but if you have experienced playing an MMO that uses those, they really don't do anything other than cause legitimate players issues with running the game.

Which is why I think either some form of server side detection or plain old manual policing are the only options they might have available and I don't believe we will see either of those.

It isn't something I am happy about.

This is not prevent bots, just make them much more private.

Instead of letting yourself be tripped by the impractical client part in your idea, you could have just ditched that part from your idea/mind. And continued with the core of the idea.

Mmm, *takes a peek around the forum* .. Seems this topic (Experiences: Incorporating Achievements) is about a similar idea. Just in case you change your mind.

Well... And I thought that I'm gonna spend rest of my vacation playing HnH2, but now it's 4 days, later I'll be just playing maybe a few hours a day. At least I can say that I'm happy that you're working on it. I need to find something to play for now.

Leave it up to the community to do the policing when it comes to bots and alts. Those that chose to do so risk being killed for it, it's all a matter of risk vs reward. That's about all you can really hope for. Now, when they get complicated enough to fight back, that'll be a whole nother bag of worms.

Because of it being one of few topics that have made the community polarized regarding it's solution this world.

Everytime one of said keywords are used on the forums (bots, client policing, alt abuse, IP-checks, bridges and single player) the same shenanigans stir up.

Fearing the forums might explode if saying all of them in the same post I'll leave the last one out.
