i've only been playing for a few weeks with a few friends, had a small hamlet built and palisaded, had a minehole built but found the rock was very hard and was trying to build up STR and find higher Q materials to build better Q equipment, one of the friends went off and started another town elsewhere with some RL buddies and we traded and such, they found a copper deposit and got a mine up quickly, then a couple hours before the server went down they found a tin deposit, we were farming Q40 veggies, had finally got the hang of killing boars. and was just getting prepared to use a ram to get into what looked like an abandoned fort built around a cave.
i'd say we worked pretty hard to get where we were and then lose it like that but you know what, we'll just take what we learned during those few weeks and built a better community because now we have a better idea what we need to do and how to do it whereas before we were just fumbling around using the wiki for most stuff. mind you there's still more we can learn but hey thats what the game's about. and to those complaining about losing all the uber stuff they had and high Q items and such, how many buckets, baskets, etc did you grind to get all that in such a short time? really if you started playing this game that, i might add, is still in the ALPHA stages of development, not expecting there to be frequent restarts and wipes, if you donated thinking that since you gave the developers money that you'd be immune to the nasty effects of development, then you really only have yourself to blame. all current MMO's during the alpha and beta stages had at some point during the testing phases had wipes and restarts so to expect this game to be different is unrealistic. money donated to the developers allows them to work on the game, implement new features, fix bugs and exploits, and make the game better.
