yeah i don't have any use for metal right now to be honest. right now i'm just running a minimalist camp while i explore for a good permanent location, so a few baskets and urns are working alright for me. when i find a place i'll build cupboards in the cabin(s). later on i'd want a metal plow and a scythe, and probably a pickaxe, so eventually i'll have to trade for that.

Not denying for a second that lady luck has been smiling at me. Then again I'm not really trying to prove a point here, just having fun. Yes, strength will be an issue, but I think I will be set up to kick boar ass by the time I get to more civilized tracts. You are right that there should be some early source for the stuff, though.

Not sure what plants spawn where (I'm not expected to remember trivial details like that, am I?), but I found wheat and grapes on grassland (I first went looking for grapes on heath, though, per jackard's suggested logic) flax on heath, tea in moor and on dirt. Onions in forest. Hops in forest. Poppies on heath I think. I'm on a carrot hunting expedition right now. Forest is the place to be I believe.

EDIT: Oh, and, yeah. Pumpkins would be nice.

Noooooo...lol Sweety he's just not trying hard enough (umm wheat and metal..lol) You don't have a map editor J? Come on now, think man, do it right, Pick about a 10-tile square area right in front of that first Kiln, change those 10 tile's values from 10 to ...umm...99 (wouldn't want to be too obvious)...then do the same with the water above it...then those tiles between the two kilns, change the soil to 99 as well...wallaaa!

As for the cave, put an Iron mine 20 tiles in the door and a gold mine 30 tiles in and towards the opposite wall.

Whew, some people, just don't know how to play ya know, have to lay it all out for them..lol

We find a kiln by a source of Q29 clay. The kiln is in nice condition. We haven't seen better clay yet, so we load it up with clay goods. Four tree planter's pots, one tea pot, one mug and the rest jars. While those burn we search the surroundings.

We find the lodgings of the guy we presume to be the owner of the kiln. If it's not on claim, it's free game is my philosophy. Q is good (better than mine, 14-15) on the wheat so we pilfer a bagful, and we also find... tada! A bucket of milk! This will come in very handy, as we won't be having any cows for a long time. Other than that, not much. Nice place, though. Decent water, soil and clay nearby (20-30 range).

All in all, not a bad haul (shooped shot). (Q24 on soil and worms)

The world I love The tears I drop To be part of The wave can't stop
Ever wonder if it's all for you
The world I love The trains I hop To be part of The wave can't stop
Come and tell me when it's time to
