The fact of the matter is, the black skills are nonessential. Some may argue that newbies need these skills to defend themselves, which is quite preposterous. Because even if a newbie could initiate combat to defend themselves, they wouldn't have the weapon skill to win. Because they're newbies. If someone attacks them, they're already doomed. And now, since they're safer from theft, they are, indeed, positively affected.

As Vattic points out, the best thing a newbie can do for safety is to join a village.

This change causes an even greater discrepancy between the haves and the have-nots.

They are the jackasses who CHOSE to take advantage of a system in a way that it was not intended to be done, they CHOSE to, instead of train to be truly skilled thief, create alts and be thundercunts.

This is the solution to that.

Oh look, a Raephire post. I can't expect you to remain objective in this, after all.

This change clearly doesn't affect me - not only do I have the skills but I wasn't intending to use them. But I can still see why this is a bad thing - there were others ways to solve the problem of alt abuse, this is simply the quickest and easiest to implement. There are players interested in PvP, and you don't want to drive off the legitimate ones.

Hey cool, why don't you tell us how to create a "truly skilled thief" when you can be tracked at any level of stealth or intelligence by anyone with 10 perception and 1 exploration, then summoned and killed while offline if you do anything more then walk onto another person's property?

Trespass doesn't allow a summon. This is all just temporary, updates for thieving and ranging will come. At the moment the balance between thieves and normal players keeps shifting one from to the other lets hope they can balance it properly.

Yes, Raephire's post ignores the fact that a thief with over two hundred points in stealth was tracked by someone with six exploration and eighteen perception.

This change is similar to some of the more aggressive forms of DRM in that it punishes the legitimate pvper and does little to stop the macroer.

A) No, you don't.
B) I've never stolen anything, try again. This game is shit without the fear of death and theft though, it'd be just Eating Things Online instead of something interesting.

I hope that losing that alt hurt JTG very much. As much as it did when he lost Goku. I wasnt there personally when he flipped out, but i wish i was :P

Also, his stealth was good, but far from great. I have 6 exploration and 18 PER, yet noticed some of his clues around my place when i was robbed (see gourmet thief thread), and another ranger found tons of them.

I have to say... that sounds a little unfair.

Yes, yes. We get it people, being a thief is almost impossible at the moment. So quit your whining, and wait for the next Dev session.

Yes, it was the quickest and easiest to implement, exactly why they did it. Loftar's time was limited. Temporary, temporary, temporary.
