Since I've seen some people doing this wrong, I thought I should mention it. Trees -- and you would think that this should be obvious -- need to be planted at a reasonable distance from one another. As a tree grows, so does it's bounding box. A tree will not grow if it, when it checks for the possibility to do so, finds that it cannot increase it's bounding box without collision. In fact bounding box collision will permanently nerf a tree in its present state of growth if it happens, so give the babies some room to breathe.
