I do like the fact -- and this, interestingly enough, simulates actual silk production methods fairly well -- that silk is generally produced in very small quantities by self-sustaining farmers, who can then sell it on to bulk buyers. The silk I do have has been bought, more or less, one thread at a time (Here, here, Dwarfu). If you are a newb setting out to play, producing even a small amount of silk will get you all the metal you need, I'd wager. The thing right now, though, is that the market is basically dry. I haven't been able to acquire more than two and a half pieces of cloth, and I've been trading for every thread I've been able to. My next test will, on account of this, be silk production. It is possible that we overdid it a bit.

Mass silk Ftw? 2 cloths by tomorrow
afternoon, and i drowned so now i
don't know what i want to do with
them, >.> sewing's not high enough
to make rangers gear and i haven't
seen anyone trading something i
want for them =\ *sigh*

Ahh well, rangers gear here i come?
:D

I honestly think the process for making
silk is enjoyable and rewarding. I made
close to 36 straw baskets and planted
a mulberry tree, end of story + loads
of silk. plz don't make it harder to make
silk though lol, i've got too many baskets
as it is already.

One more thing, I kind of miss having "Entarded(_2)" on the IRC, its just not the same without you.

I don't really care if you're a dev, the lack of serious trade conversation's just a bit...dull.

Edit: Also, there goes my hopes of trading more silk for silver.

Boggle. Jorb bought my house? Brilliant. ;-)

Regarding signposts, after making some connections last night, and trying them out, I would say there is a very important addition needed: the ability of a lawspeaker to flag a signpost as usable by anybody. At the moment, if I travel somewhere using a post, I then need to turn on criminal acts to make use of the post where I traveled to.

Regarding trade that is not based on IRC, I think that you will need to work on chat. Make visible text clearer, make it wrap, make that link between bubbles and recorded speech you mentioned, make village chat, area chat, etc. etc. We use IRC because in game it is laborious, restricted, and too easy to miss what somebody says.

Additionally, the global chat could easily be mapped to use the same widgets that private and party chat uses

Woah, that was you? My good buddy who always bought chantrelles from me? ^_^ Well that's really cool...but now who will I sell my chantrelles to? D: Hope to see you in-game as some other random trader sometime (and maybe you will stay on it not letting us know! (or maybe you already have one)).
