newfags can't be ready for such devs game activity, they have their own life and support this game on their own money

I think at this point its not as much of a matter when the server comes up, rather a matter of whenever Loftar will be up :D

I think it's worth considering that something in the code might be encouraging hard drive crashes. At the very least I've never heard of another game having this many hard drive crash/replacement issues.

However, the game's god damned free. So quit your kavitching.

Loftar, get out from your bed! This downtime makes me MAD! You can sleep later, for the GODS sake!

Also - sleep is only for losers in HnH.

Yeah I've been wondering about this as well.

I have come up with this though

  • Haven probably does a lot more writes/reads to disk than your typical MMO does (seeing how much is delegated to the server and not handled by the client, as would be the case in most other MMOs). Also, how much is stored in RAM compared to other MMOs?
  • Haven could probably use another RAID setup than it does if not for the associated increased hardware costs. I am not an expert on RAID, but I do think many setups have disks that could be replaced while the system is still running, not affecting uptime at all (more redundancy). If this is the case, maybe other MMOs do have the same problems, but might it be that for haven it's more visible?
  • Loftar likes to do low-level stuff. I know loftar usually doesn't use a lot of high-level fluff. Might it be that he (even though he's a great programmer) might have made some low-level mistake that makes things a lot worse? I'd think most other MMOs wouldn't be as susceptible to low-level problems of let's say I/O is done on the kernel level because they simply do not handle that kind of thing themselves. This point is pure speculation and I'm way out of my comfort zone speculating about these things.

Why not just reset the server again and implement the new format? Wouldn't it be faster? its not like anyone has made it that far already.
