So that random passerbys can come by and break down every piece of your freshly built wall?

Claims & scents

Oh, well geez, if we have claims and scents then why the fuck do we build walls anyway?!! What kind of argument is that bud?

Did anyone play oddity's version?
he had custom built houses.
basically you built each wall separately, and when they linked up the house was then complete.
you couldn't see into the house from the outside,
or see out from the inside.
the same should be true with cellars, only you should need to dig them and put a roof on, before building the house.
this would also allow secret cellar houses with only a trapdoor visible from the outside world.

That was arksu's game, Origin World.

I miss it :'( One of many ancient screenshots from when it was still open to the public:

Can we just rethink walls entirely?

They certainly allow developed clans to mitigate almost all risk that comes with going around randomly killing people.

I detest them but they're integral to the game as it's currently designed. What's a reasonable alternative?

Not a whole lot different from being completely without walls for 24 hours.

What "is" the purpose of the drying timeout? Why can;t we just build a wall if we want to build a wall?

So that people don't wall you in.
