When salem first came out to the alphas it was essentially a terrain engine. I don't blame him if he started hating it at that stage really (At least I think he was an alpha tester).

And now its a farming and foraging simulator.
If everything that is "supposed" to be added IS added then I can see it possibly being a small niche game that 200 or 300 people play, but nothing "anywhere" as badass as Haven is which is why I expect mad wailing and gnashing of teeth when all of you Haven enthusiasts get into the beta.

What drew me "personally" to Salem was the Edger Allen Poe, Tim Burton, H.P. Lovecraftian vibe that the game was supposed to follow, but the only thing to this point in the game that even "mildly" has that vibe is horses. Now don't get me wrong, I am aware that a lot of shit is in the pipeline and something as simple as Witchcraft could draw me back into being interested in it but from what I can tell, all Jorb and Loftar have working on in the last 2ish months is the map generator so I'm not expecting a content update before beta. I hope I'm proven wrong......

Thought for all you folks clamoring over Beta invites: Join the Paradox forums and make some noise over there. Paradox are the ones controlling the invites, so you should be making a huge fuss there. Also, that's where all the news is getting posted.

i guess that's a good enough point, i must be butt flustered that they just decided to put there full focus on salem instead of going between the two. Meh, i'm not too happy about the current circumstances but i'll have to get over it.

I think jorb has said that they started HnH off as wanting to do a game that they wanted to play and have fun with the game design and try out different things, which would be impossible to do with a commercial project. It seems like some of these statements are floating around the forums for all to read. Try the thread in the Inn about Game Development.

Well, the X-Com franchise was abandoware for about 7-8 years (with all that implies with freely downloading the actual games) and now a new game is being developed. Thus the game can be considered abandoware at this point with the devs deciding to pick development up again later. Of course, since Jorb has already very clearly stated intentions and many of the plans on HnH, why anyone would think that it's abandonware after a bit more than a year of full-time work on Salem is beyond me.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

i guess in my mind they could have split their attention to doing salem and working on hnh problems, but there are only two of them so in all honesty i have not a clue on how they would go about this certain situation. My only experiences with gaming is MUD programming and i can say working on such projects needs a decent amount of attention.

TL:DR= I think they should have split there attention, but i understand that doing either is time consuming.
The sum of my experience is comprised up of more skeletons on my own claim then alot of you guys have wood blocks invested in your wall. But even though these skeles show i am a bad player- i still strive to continue through this vile territory in the hopes that one day i will have an army big enough to find you and murder all you know

Being as how haven IS their hobby, and presumably they have days off? I'd think they'd tinker with Haven a bit more than they have but meh, it's not my game. Maybe they prefer to get drunk and laid in their free time.

we can't really compare a single player game with our online rpg :>
abandonware = shutdown the server and leave people with a client and let them reverse engineer the server, maybe.
But its not the case.

Joined it, won't let me post. It's a pretty shitty forum for all the hoops they make you jump through :/

As for hobbies and whatnot, it's like anything else. When it becomes a job, and a timeconsuming one at that, doing it on the weekend isn't relaxing anymore. And a big issue stopping them from what I understood is the item handling server side. It's been remodelled and they need to reprogram the entire game (this would solve a lot of haven's lag issues). They don't have time for that, and they don't want to write code they'd just have to re-write.

Since they do not turn SALEM into a rave MMO, with chars full of auras, lights, lasers, and more glowing auras, high level chars looking like Christmas trees, PVP looking like a rave party and all that popular MMO's bitching stuff, worth the playing.
