I hope so.

And I hope they restart the whole thing after beta-testing is successful so people don't already have a head-start.

Experience alone will be a headstart. Haven world resets show that quite thoroughly.

Again, Salem isn't Haven.

Intending to operate a trade outpost. If the defense system is good enough, and there's barter stands or the equivalent, wouldn't mind letting anyone in to trade at it. Otherwise I'll probably just use it as a buying and selling point for my village. I know my rangers like to track scents for fun so that will give them something to do in the off times and keep them away from the larders for a bit.

Also: Possibly a trade caravan that will bring goods to other "city" centers that spring up. Really not sure if the profit margins will be enough to make it worth the hassle though. But I know Phaen loves her wagons so why not try it :)

No point. Just not anything like this in game nor is there enough things even worth trading. This isn't Haven and you're still thinking in Haven terms....

I'd disagree. Food. With the new gluttony system, food and curiosities are more valuable than they were previously. And high end crafted goods/tools will always be valuable. So what if I'm trading armor for wheat, it means less wheat I have to grow for my combatants.

And experience of knowing what skills to pick up, where to look for stuff. It's worth something. I doubt the headstart will be as critical though, due to the whole civilization rating thing. If nothing else: Having an organized group will be useful.

Until you're in the Alpha/beta and have played it, you are talking out of your ass. Sorry, you just aren't "getting" it. Salem is so different that I think if two people who knew nothing about either played them both, they wouldn't really compare the two to each other.

^this

Salem is inspired by HnH, not a direct copy.

Inspired is the wrong word. People are usually inspired by works of others or works of nature. It's more like saying if HnH were an OS, you could call it Win98 and Salem could be WinXP. (Or something like that... horrible metaphor, I know, but it was only thing I could think of that might be universally understood.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
