I don't pretend to understand server dynamics, but I know this part isn't true. MMOs are almost exclusively server side since authorative server is basically the only way to prevent hacking.

So other MMOs are using their disc/processor power just as much server side. Ones that don't get a reputation for being hacked very quickly (Mabinogi is a good example of that).

I very much doubt other MMOs keep track of which UI widgets are open. But IANAMMOD.

Loftar has stated SEVERAL times now that the world and char data was backed up successfully. He's having trouble installing the server to a hard drive basically. Well not trouble, it's just taking time really.

Think of it like a car. The world data is the bit we players care about, and those are the passengers. The server is the car that lets us do things. The car broke down, but the passengers got out safely. We're waiting for the car to get out of the shop right now. Once it's running, the passengers can get back in and the game will resume.
