flattening ground for a house is beyond infuriating... even with ctrl + digging

This is about as far as I made it in the alpha. Level up and get all of the major skills, but then quit when you're faced with actually building a settlement. The whole world manipulation mechanic is incredibly clunky compared to Haven and I couldn't really muster up the effort to actually make something worthwhile.

Get lots of phlegm and it's not as painful. but yeah. wost. mechanic. ever. (well, maybe not worst, but damn...)

when you pay the 20 silver to go in the wilderness, can you instead go to someone else homestead?

Nope. If you want to join someone else, you have to use your God-given equipment to get there yourself. ;) Make sure they add permissions for you on their claim, too, or you'll have a nasty surprise when you trespass.
