on to my real point, if the server is having a hard time with the heavy read/write and may be crashing the drives, you might wanna try looking into getting SSD (solid state drive) that is unless you are already using them. Using ssd is costly but it will greatly cut down on latency (accessing, reading and sending data) and read/write time as well as many other issues since its faster with no moving parts to fail and precision writing errors causing bad sectors to form in the platter HDD over time with data not being written correctly or missed all together.
I would also like to add that using a raid system is probably one of your more stable options even though it might be more complicated and a little slower for data accessing. however I am sure you know that.
