Apologies if I was a bit woolheaded there. I was reading your reply as to that one statement and not necessarily to parts or whole of the post. Of course the player is the most important in a game, but I think that goes without saying. This is a given for any game that is designed and intended to be played. I just don't see players as being important in a discussion on game mechanic priorities short of a few basic questions: "Will this encourage retired players to come back?" "Will this drive off current players?" etc.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I think you misunderstand. This is replacing the current Haven. It's Haven, but with new graphics, server engine, and improved client.

ok so lets class it as the same game, but its still a 3rd codebase (or whatever the term loftar used), and the distinction doesn't seem to have much bearing on what I actually said.

But they're not maintaining 3 code bases. They're completely replacing one. That's a good bit different.

One thing from Salem's food system that would be nice to have in Haven is the recipe variants with different ingredients.

i kinda wish they had the amount of hunger(or how quickly you become hungry) from the URW model.
