would you appreciate loads of people who never baked a cake coming to your cooking recipe blog, starting to tell you that you should melt butter in a microwave instead of hot water because that's what they have seen as a normal method, repeatedly one after another over years, when you had already explained how it could fail?

*edit*
what i mean is, its of course fine to show your stupidity if you dont mind it, but dont start blaming others for pointing that out. also, having a programmer friend doesnt give you a credit for programming.

LadyV wrote:Now all this being said those same people are accountable for their words as well. I may support your right to be heard but do try and contribute knowingly and certainly with respect.

Tonky please read what i write. I am defending no ones words. And regardless of how many came before with similar statements every person is different and deserves some respect. Yes they may be repeating what others have said and been wrong with but they are not those other people and should not be treated as if they are.

People are people regardless of a long line of past problems by people. If they can not stop defending a losing cause after a reasonable time then stop feeding their argument. Your perfectly capable of denying power to a bad argument.

Now the person your refering to I disagree with myself. And in everything i have said so far it has no bearing. However when someone blindly says if you are not skilled in this you don't deserve to contribute, yes I will argue they do deserve a voice. I don't care what you say I will not change my mind on that.

They may be in error or not know the problem fully but they are a person and trying to contribute, even if misinformed. If that person steps out of line then its a moderator issue to address. Jorb and Loftar made these threads and there are clearly written rules. Until those are crossed I do believe even they support free exchange of ideas.

Now I have explained myself for one day. Like what I have to say or not this is enough. People should have a voice. What they do with that voice is their own burden to carry.

Have a good day.

I think this is the fundamental point we disagree on here. For me personally, my respect towards someone on a forum depends on the quality of their posts. I feel no moral obligation to respect someone who makes shitty posts; they do not contribute to the community and may even actively detract from it. Respect should be earned, not given. But I'm sure I'm not the only one who does not feel obligated to respect someone repeatedly making shitty posts.

This is simply not true. Between page 240 and 245 I only fed their argument thrice, two of which were just making fun of the impossibility of their claims rather than truly feeding the argument. Yet the argument continued despite that, even continuing until page 248 without the original poster. I can only control my own actions. Even if I don't feed the argument, others will.

And this is even only a situation with a poster that actually means what he says. Try to apply this approach to a genuine troll and you'll have an endless thread derailment.

A slight nuance you're missing here. While they are free to make their initial comment, if they don't know jack shit about the subject they're talking about, they shouldn't continue defending their argument after people who DO know their shit have refuted it as being not technically possible, or at the very least not by claiming the people who are more knowledgeable about the subject are simply wrong without any evidence to prove them wrong.

Also, I did not quote a wall of text.

So, there. You have been put in your place.

Also on spam section of Rules:
Put some effort into your posting! We would like to see some actual discussion not empty "+1".

"Rules are enforced at moderator discretion. Report any posts you feel break the rules instead of replying to them. Any concerns regarding a moderated post or thread should be taken to the moderation discussion thread. Do not derail threads with posts discussing moderator actions."

You should probably read the rules before trying to quote us on them. Also pick up basic netiquette, because attempting to rules-lawyer the owner is fairly stupid.
