Doesn't the server auto restart??

This has been suggested from time to time, but the problem with that is that Loftar needs to look closely at the crash logs in order to recover lost data and prevent future crashes. Otherwise, there could be rollbacks like back in the first world.

Do you mean that something inside the world has crashed the game, and that it has to be removed. OR a rollback that undoes the object automatically.

He means that the server process keeps a lot of stuff in memory and only saves to disk every hour or so.
If the system crashed and was automatically restored then anything that happened since the last save to disk would not be remembered.

This is not just undesirable but can also lead to data corruption as the grids are saved one at a time, and character data is saved separately as well. Therefore it would be possible to have an item saved on two grids, and in a players inventory at the same time, crash the server, then when it loads up again all of a sudden there's three copies of the item. (basic duping)

The problem with basic duping is that if Loftar does anything fancy with the storage of item state, then you could potentially have three people with THE SAME item in their inventory simultaneously, so that if one player changes the state of that item, then it changes for all players holding it.

As cool as that sounds, it may be possible to change its state in an illegal way, or have it undergo the same state change multiple times, which could result in unexpected data going through Loftars code, and that can typically do all sorts of crazy shit, but most likely just annoying and hard to track down crashes.

So in summary, automatic restarts and roll backs are not desirable and could theoretically DECREASE overall stability.

Thanks for the explanation.

But, how would he avoid rolling back?

Really, if the code is the problem, why not fix it. I like the game, but the connection quality is an abomination

because there is only the 2 coders, and working out bugs, and adding new content, is a lengthy, and test requiring process, that's rather why we are acting as game testers.

Corrected.

Jorb draws.
Kaka makes the sounds.
Loftar is the code monkey.

So sorry to hear that you feel like that. You should ask for a refund.
