The difference being you don't have to grind trivial shit for hours or even days on end in order to progress in terms of village and production, where as in Salem this is not the case.

W1 and W2 are before my time but I still stand by the fact that Haven early game was and always will be the most interesting aspect of the game.

You are referring to the intermediate game; not the early game, the scope of which is covered by my stickied tutorial and used to be much more boring.

I thought "early game" referred to "the beginning of a new world" and/or the first week or so of a new character, like how it refers to the first 10-15 minutes or so of a StarCraft match.

Early game is up until you have a palisade and a village claim. Whether you can do this in 2 days or 2 weeks is kind of irrelevant.

Haven's strength has always been in its midgame.

What I noticed when playing Salem was that it suffered from many of the same pitfalls Haven had already (or had yet to) overcome, whether from sharing similar mechanics or just plain stubbornness on the part of its developers. Salem felt as though it was designed in a vacuum, learning little from its predecessor or other games.

Are you implying that early game in Haven is a "miserable experience," because one could easily make the argument that statement is incorrect.

Also inb4 Painhertz will be bashing the game along with everyone else soon enough. Actually, I'm probably not the only one who noticed his opinions flip-flop more than a fish out of water.

I can happily say the game has reached a point where I have more or less as much fun as I do in Haven, that being said i still prefer Haven if it gets updates but you won't be hearing much Salem bashing from me.

( Several of my bigger complaints have been addressed in the past 3 or so patches and now with thing's like rabbits, turkeys, blackberry bushes, hollow tree trunks with goodies inside, etc etc have made the early game a good bit less tedious and having finally died in Salem, i can say that if you have even a decent camp set up coming back is "easier" than in Haven despite it being "true" perma-death and Haven being only a % perma-death.)
