why do you want this to be commercial? its not about if its viable or not, but about if devs want or not.

honestly, i'm not concerned much about whether h&h "goes commercial" or turns into a goldmine for the devs..i just want them to think about the possibility and remember the true value of h&h. it's a fantastic game. i suppose mostly my reason for all these words is selfish ultimately - i just want to play haven again, the way it used to be (before the lag and general broken-ness), or maybe the way it could be ;)

i know this is jorb and loftar's project and they may not want to try to send it down this road. of course that's their decision. but pretend you're a game designer for a minute. which one sounds more rewarding to you?

1. working on a game under the wing of paradox interactive, working on their deadlines and projected cost-benefit ratios and corporate bureaucracy, etc - although i'm sure paradox has been quite good to our guys.
2. working on a game independently, where you have full creative control and 100% of the proceeds go directly into your pocket. and it works.

i suppose there's not much point to me going any further with ideas since there's nothing i can ultimately do about anything except post a bunch of words and try to spark a conversation on what looks to me like a rather dull forum :?

Fools, bob dole knows how to solve this dilemma. Make the game free to play with a twist. You have 100% learning as a free player, or you can pay monthly for 5 bucks a month and get 360% learning instead. That way you pathetic worthless garbage 14 year olds that can't afford 5 bucks a month, can still play this magnificient game, and bob dole gets to feast on your bodies with his superior skills and attributes. Bob dole is a genius!
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

The game needs to be completely gutted, no hot fix shit, a TOTAL overhaul is needed, I assume JLo have some ideas in mind, but it's better that it be fixed for good rather then these same problems re-occurring, if it gets another lame restart again then you'd most likely just be sending it to its watery grave (imo).

It would be cool to have different worlds with different features like that. But I think having multiple, unconnected worlds might fracture the community or something. I prefer that everyone has to play in the same world.

bitza wrote:world 3. runs for 2 years, then a reset. 2 years is plenty of time to spend on creating a village and fighting wars before a reset. many people would prefer this to the permanent world, i would imagine. the difference here in the pay model is, a flat rate one time fee to create a character *and its descendants*, not a monthly fee. you pay $xx for a character and if you want an alt, it's another $xx and then some. think of it as an amortized cost of running the server for 2 years, or "up front donation"

I think I like this idea most, but 2 years is too long. I mean, consider how long World 3 dragged on when it lasted 10 months, and how boring W6 is after 1 year and 3 months.

I wish the entire length of the world could be as fun as the first week or so, before everyone has their invinci-walls up. I'm not sure how this could be done, but we could reset the world more often, make building shit less tedious somehow (so people don't feel like they barely have any time to make anything cool). But there still needs to be some balance between defense and offense so that you can actually punish criminals and raid your enemies, but everyone isn't too vulnerable. 24 hour ram camping is shit.
