So is global chat permanently gone, or has it just been shut off because of the performance issues or something?

Permanently gone, I'd assume; a more reliable and moderated chat is found here, the IRC: irc://irc.synirc.net/Haven

Hardly more reliable, but at least it does have some moderation. (You don't have to worry about sir spam-a-lot trying to crash your client.)

Hmm thats a shame, it was occasionally funny and when it got spammed/annoying, it was literally 2 keystrokes to shut it off. Dunno why they'd remove it altogether? Oh well.

Because of the reason I mentioned. No idea if there were issues server-side, but there have been a few known bugs in the past with text entry crashing the server.

Hey guys, the server threw me and my friends down, weren't able to reconnect. Checked the main page aaaand:
"The server appears to have crashed :(
The server last talked to me at Fri Jan 20 14:40:28 2012 (UTC)"

Please do something, I hope it's nothing serious... :-O
