Yes, saying that something isn't the same anymore because it has changed is a true statement.

You're wasting your breath on these people, Teck. Some people just can't see the obvious facts even if they were a snake biting them on the pecker.

So Loftar, I heard the Salem alpha is running already. Did you manage to work on our lagproblem yet?
Would be so sweet without the lags.

What lag problem? Must be your computer.

This:
loftar wrote:That it will not; the performance problems are due to I/O latency, the cause of which I haven't managed to pin down, but I suspect it has to do with XFS force-flushing its log sometimes when doing metadata operations (and XFS seems to exhibit extraordinarily bad performance with synchronous I/O in general). I have started formulating a scheme to isolate the game server from such problems, however. With some hope, I'll have time to implemented once we've gotten the Salem alpha rolling.

Compared to what we were dealing with this summer, there is no lag problem. Can things be improved more? Sure.

The problems this summer (immediately after the nuke) were certainly atypical. The regular game experience itself is still pretty unrefined performance wise.

Troll. Yea, gotta get the new Octo-Core to get this game running smoothly, because its my PC, not the issue loftar mentioned.

MagicMan is not a troll in the slightest. The introduction of W6 has been greatly reduced the lag which came around back in June when the servers got corrupted.

Well, I wouldn't say that. I prefer baiting the trolls, though. ;)

AP pretty much hits the nail on the head. If you've been playing as long or longer than I have, then you've seen the server go through some really rough spots. This game actually runs better than some commercial MMOGs I've played. That's why I said if people are having issues with lag, they really need to check their systems. I'm on an eight year old computer (AMD Athlon XP, 1.5GB RAM, AGP video card) and the only issue I have is with loading resources from the server. Once that's done, the game runs smoothly with an occasional hiccup.
