Idk what you guys are thinking when I say smaller world... It's not like y'all will be circle jerking in a 4x4 square like you seem to think. By smaller I mean smaller than it is now, not just generally small. Isolationism would still be possible, just less practical due to trading changes. The main reason I suggested a smaller world is because it would make trading without teleporting less terrible, and the world right now just seems too huge and empty for the player base it's meant to support.

Edit: topic made by a (probably) new player in C&I proves my point

Smaller world with 300-500 people is not going to go down well, you're gunna have people getting robbed, killed, and griefed left and right because it's easier to come into contact with someone and their valuables.

Not to mention it will increase the difficulty of someone joining in later on in the world and trying to find a nice place where the resources aren't exhausted and a big bad neighbor isn't going to come and impale the player on a sword.

I think I have an idea of what you're speaking of. The issue is early on (within six months), you have too many people and not enough space. Even what it's at was more than a bit crowded when w7 started. (I think the far corners weren't heavily occupied.) But a lot of people, as usual, quit the game due to being raided, killed, bored, whatever, and so you get the same world that feels completely empty because of all the dead and inactive claims around. I felt the same way in w3 when I started, it was twice the size (square area) than it is now, and no more people playing than now, I don't think. There's just not going to be a "happy" place for world size without going into a bunch of instancing and other modern MMO tools that feel arbitrary and effectively sequester players into a limited space. (it also doesn't help that there's now six layers for players to live on instead of just the surface.)

How about 1500 in a 5x5 area? That's what w5 was like the first month. It was defeinitely fun, but only the dominant got established (and then had to move because the server ate it).
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I honestly do get the issues you're bringing up and agree with them, I just feel that, if teleporting was nerfed, manual trading would just be too hard to be viable in a world were it takes hours to go from place to place, therefore shooting trading in the knee.

A smaller world would be beneficial because it would influence hermits to join villages, because they would be killed if they don't.

The faction wars are the best part of haven.

I would rather long distance trading be eliminated all together and have to be conducted in a local area or not at all, than have the be world smaller to compensate for trading.

Ideally there would be some sort of server hub for trade that you could visit and trade with anyone at any give time, like an official market.
