Maybe palisades will keep them back, but that could get kinda risky with keys and pricy with logs and such. I have yet to care enough to build a palisade however. lol

Nevermind. Bears don't run so I'll just kill them instead and get 36k LP.

Broken system is broken.

RE: Boar lethality...

I've been very lucky. The first character I played was on an island, and the animal rarity didn't seem to affect me - we found 5 boars. Five. On an island. All near our campsite. So yeah, training them ALL by way of shoreline one at a time was very annoying. But I gave up that char when some Russians came in, brought one of the boar back, and proceeded to break all my stuff, because they could.

Now I'm on a mainland area, and walking along I have found a suitable place to play, however, let me say that I have learned to walk the riverlines and nothing but. Furthermore, I had to use Gilbertus client, because my first attempt with the default client, I drew aggro on two boars I never saw until they almost got me (fir trees). Seriously, with the tiny screen res of the default client, boars are a gamebreaker now. It's not enjoyable unless I have Ctrl+X, Ctrl+N, or at least Ctrl+H to see the boars and plan to avoid. And, with the lines of sight, I'm sure I'd have seen a few boars in reality if playing like that, without the whole "2D trees block view of deadly animal five feet from me".

Yes, I found chickens - yes I'm surviving, yes I've seen a total of 10 rabbits on a total of what felt like a 3 SG trip (it was probably more after 4 hours of walking)... Rabbit rarity is cool, but for god's sake leather is impossible now. Why? And 2 leather for Sling? So now it's even harder for the newbie to have ranged. God help me if I want to scare a boar off from shoreline so he doesn't bother me...

You won't be saying that in a week or two when you realize how many abandoned homes there are. A 30 second boat ride south of my village literally bring you to the ghetto. There's abandoned claims everywhere with the occasional newb taking things and raiders patrolling. It reminds me of Detroit.

Maybe you'll be fortunate for it to run in to something and it turns directly around, but this isn't the case every time.

Y'know I was just thinking that seriously wounded animals should run slower and leave a trail of blood.

What % of Russians would start griefing you on sight?
We should be able to make traps... Because we should. The same way to counter those who can grief and break stuff, because they can... Just, make it skill based on two sets of stats so one is for creation and setting of the traps, and the other for disarming and avoiding said trap. Could help if trap can function in a RPG way, will be transparent and would only reveal if said skill/stat is great enough to uncover it.

And... Locked buildings. Should be possible by barring it with a piece of wood board, and said door can be broken into with brute force.

And the main page said Korean players, which would have to be South Korean players...
Seeing the outlines of boars behind trees only works if you yourself is behind something... Which is bad. I think they should make it so if things are in your character's line of sight at a balanced range, the said props/animals will appear as outlines if they are covered.

I think i'm just gonna stop caring about this thread. It's tedious to read through the almost full page responses of people complaining about how they couldn't find chickens or rabbits. I have had no problem with this, i just don't go hunting for them, and i find them, they're practically still "abundant".

SpidersEverywhere wrote:Y'know I was just thinking that seriously wounded animals should run slower and leave a trail of blood.

This would lead into the tracking skill that was suggested somewhere in C&I i think, and i'm all for it.

I guess what I'm saying is that the problem isn't you can't catch a boar, it's that you can't catch a boar. They are entireably catchable, and complaining because you can't is unwarrented.

No, what is unwarranted is your attack on what is merely my own speculation, not complaint, from personal experience. You are not offering up any validation to what you say, other than "I did it before." You your self said that you have not tried it in this world yet, so it is only my current experience versus your past experience.

Yes, you can catch a boar if you manage to cut it off or it bounces back towards you from something. But this isn't 1 year along world 3 where all you need is 1 sting and it is dead, this is a fresh world and I am punching. It sometimes takes several hits to finish a boar, and chasing it around for who knows how long is no fun at all.

Lucky for me I have some decent Q water at my disposal so I can refill my stamina fairly fast, but for people who have Q10 I can't even imagine the pain they are suffering in this situation.

I will say for argument's sake that, if you were running a clear straight line, chasing a boar, no objects in the way. Then yeah, maybe you could catch it....Eventually. Unfortunately the Hearth Lands are littered with trees, rocks, rivers, cliffs, swamps, and marshes, and they are harder for you to walk around manually than the AI controlled boar who has some decent pathfinding when he's running away.

Straight up, you run faster than a boar. Thus, with some planning, strategy and/or teamwork is should not be too difficult to do, as I have since experianced in the current world. On a point of realism do you think that you could chase a boar down?
