I agree that the following sucks:
Deer healing ability
General lack of counter for animals that flee
Sadistic animal AI that can dodge, juke, and weave through a forest or gate but unable to be led through a gate when domesticated

But I think those are all separate issues that need to be dealt with directly. These changes are about weapon balance. All hunting currently revolves around "one shot" kills, buggy bear fleeing code, animals stop fleeing at a certain distance, signpost trapping, etc. In other words... current hunting is pretty cheesy and needs a fix independent to what's being done here.

I think a lot of people have mixed opinions on this, so let me try to clarify some things so people can at least try to see the other point of view.

The sling nerf hit a lot of new and old players hard. They come in to such an already developed world, some of them getting killed right off the bat by some of the big bad players that exist today. Currently, this game, maybe only for the duration of this world, is just one big grind fest. The removal of something that helped a HUGE amount in dealing with that grind is obviously going to piss off a lot of players. To me, no one is mad about losing any time spent trying to buy a high q sling, or the fact that their high quality sling is now useless, it's the fact that they now have to spend more time walking over a field or out hunting with a weapon they can barely use, all in an effort to catch up to players who had the chance to use and did use this hunting mechanic every day, or just to meet a personal goal of their own.

I know this change to slings is for the better in the long term, but I really believe it's just one of those things that just need to wait for a clean slate in the future. Most of this update certainly was needed, but to be honest a good chunk of it just didn't seem that great to me. It's like getting a snack just to tide you over until dinner, that's all I can really see some of it as. Something to give the masses so they stop crying for a wipe, or an update, or this and that.

I just don't see what the big rush was in putting some of these updates out before any other concrete plans were ready to go.

Fixes screw over people all the time, how do you think the people who neglected agi and broke their stats with str feel now? The devs can't afford to take current political balance in situation when fixing the balance in the game's mechanics, otherwise they'd never get anything done. And there are far more important things to do for the next reset than rebalancing slings.

This was my point exactly. Why bother at all with them at this time when there's so many more important things to be doing. It's obvious slings needed a thorough rebalancing and I don't doubt they knew that, so why bother at all?

The most powerful hunting weapon is the boat, and it still works the same.

my point here is more about how long it should take new chars to start their own village, rather than weapon balance. the sling change is hurting new chars starting a new village unless they can find higher lvl chars to trade with for antlers. when the world resets, everyone starts as new again and there wont be too many "higher lvl" char to ask for items. ive been wondering if devs think itd be best for newbs to wait for longer to start their own village, as Danno said earlier, or not.
im not saying it sucks or its bad or anything, im only stating the fact that hunting for deer antlers has become considerably harder for newbs with the sling change because how deer healing works. im sure they will implement sling re-fix very soon as they said, but till then, new chars cannot build their own village as soon as others could before.

Use a better bow, duh. How can you compare hunting with a Q250 sling with hunting with a Q40 wooden bow? Get a decent bow, get decent arrows, suddenly hunting is fine again.

I dont try to compare, with bow in my hand i'am waiting for a half hour to aim. I must use plates for animal, becouse i cant kill even fox with medium quality bow. Its wrong. I think for newbie hunting must be ingame pitfalls like hidden hole or trap. And i think if animal injured it must moving slower and slower.

BTW aiming can be improoved, we can see circle moving randomly on the screen and we must click on it to shoot and how higher your MM then slower moving this circle. Just wait its boring.

I've read through it once more and he said the slings will be useless until they come up with a solution so the bows will only be a temp solution.
