That's neither here nor there, though, what we have in game is a sort of armour that appeared in the 13th century.

And I highly doubt that segmented was better than one piece breastplate, those people weren't idiots and would've figured it out by let's say Napoleon's time.

More research! Academian. I should put together list of items and general info about them with historical pictures and such.

Actually plate armor appeared much much before, probably even before than ancient greece. :) There are proofs that show they had chest plate armors for high ranked soldiers, but they weren't made out of steel, but copper, bronze and so on.

Also first crossbows appeared in china and greeks also know them at least in big proportions (balistas).

The overall point is, the game isn't set in any specific time period, seeing how we have items from all over the history (such as top hats), so the notion that crossbows from "this time period" were weak is ridiculous, they can easily pick for their model a crossbow who's bolt hits as hard as a shotgun slug.

So glad this thread is back on track. I'm personally against crossbows but it's a nice idea.

Best idea if crossbows were implemented that it would give them only short range power to penetrate armor. Like maybe max 10 tiles away. If further bolts would just knock off. Also putting angle and accuracy into calculation and we would probably get a weapon that have maybe 25% chance to hit and around 30% of those hits would be able to penetrate or at least partly penetrate armor if close enough. Add here slow reloading and unable to move while reloading and we have pretty good balance already.

As for bows: they should aim faster, maybe even faster than sling. Firing a bow it's pretty quick action, you take arrow, notch, draw and release. Good archer can make a quick shot at human at pretty short distance and still hit it with fast shot. Bows should have longer distance but also strength in calculation. Archer needs strength to draw a bow and more the distance is, more he needs to draw it and more he needs to draw more aiming is required (also distance increases). Also it is possible to move slowly with drawn bow.

I'm not sure why do you want crossbow to aim slower than bow, after all, when you have crossbow loaded, you are able to instant shoot. You could just add a "cooldown" to it for maybe 10 sec :)

If anything it should aim faster than bow.

Yes fast aim, but slow realoading like 5+ seconds -> also depending on strength and agility.
