I'm not sure if fishing is actually a viable method of feeding oneself though; i gave it a shot with my second character and promptly starved to death.

There is easily found string now. You should get bone from rabbits (if you get the knack how to catch them, and they give meat, too), and fishing is also possible with woodfish/rock lobster, both of which are easily acquired. You should still start with a fully equipped fishing pole, tho.

Before I had fruit trees, I had to partially feed myself by fishing (and meat). As long as you watch your food bar, this shouldn't be the problem, but you should start to fish as soon as you go into the very hungry part of the fep bar. I know that I lost a lot of HHP to starving, but I survived.

It would be nice, though, if there were wild apple trees every so often. This really is a must.

But, you can take this matter in your own hands, right? Go into the wilderness and make a few fields with wheat and the occasional apple tree. There, you helped newbies survive.

it seems you can't use a spindly taproot as a fishing line

Will be fixed after the next restart.

It disappointed me a bit that getting started up was so easy. I had expected at least a permadeath or 20 before before I could survive properly.

Yes, I'd like to work towards such a situation as well. Jorb seems concerned that it would make the game too hardcore, though. :)

True that. I'll make it so that they can be moved scentlessly if by the owner of the land they are on.

Now this update helps the newbies but if your thrown into lvl X territory and the second you pop up mr bear appears and hits you dnt you think that will make people say "Hey this game sucks i got knocked out in the first 3 seconds." Also no offense but it seems you guys are obsessed with kin and that stuff not to be rude arnt there better things you could work on? The kin system went from crappy to fine to good to over done to omg stop already. Like i said not trying to be rude but we dont need all this stuff I wont use it someone might randomly but who knows. And i can see a lot of i was killed cause my hearth was put in lvl X territory or in the middle of the water or somewhere stupid. Just get away from the kin system. Please seriously make a horse or fence gates or a shovel bigger seed bags bigger ovens something. Just NO more kin stuff.
My motions are swift as a eagle, on my worst day I am still Lethal. No challenge, only start me when you learn the ripples of a butterflies heartbeat.

These kin improvements have been needed for a while now. You shouldn't complain just because the changes aren't exciting.

as someone who has actually made a new character in X territory, and actually been one-hit KOed by a bear that ran up to me, i don't think it's a big deal. the bear actually wandered away after he KOed me and i went in the other direction. i was back to full health suprisingly fast. and the kin stuff is all long needed improvements.

I'm playing a new char in deep mordor now. I can guarantee that it's a hell of a lot more fun being with the bears than being by the RoB. I'm actually... you know... crafting things and shit.

EDIT: Also, three patches of wild wheat. Yay me! :D
