Yes sir. I feel ripped off. Demand compensation. Raging. Blasphemy, and whatnot.

And you are sure they don't deaggro while you fight them? And that you are talking about bears and not boars...

So, as it seems, wild animals (Deer, Fox, Bear, Boar) can all break construction sign fences when advancing. Boar and Bear can break Roundpole fences. Can deer and fox also break roundpole?

What can and can't those animals break when retreating? I am told that fox cannot break sign fence when retreating. Is this true? Also, bears won't retreat, so that part's not really so necessary.

Mouflon and Aurochs cannot break roundpole (proven). Can these two break construction signs?

You won't be saying that in a week or two when you realize how many abandoned homes there are. A 30 second boat ride south of my village literally bring you to the ghetto. There's abandoned claims everywhere with the occasional newb taking things and raiders patrolling. It reminds me of Detroit.

Bears do retreat. I have to use my sling on them because when I use my bow and arrow I do too much damage in one hit causing them too flee. I'm not sure how much damage they run from but I did about 150 in one hit and it ran, with the sling I do about 50-70 in one hit.

This would be it. 1.2k is a deaggro, ~12k is a full fight, no break. Or something like that.

Interesting. It appears the bear's flight point is a certain amount of damage in one hit. I know that I sling and get... well, I get like 8-10 at a max. It takes a while but I eventually kill bears. It makes me cry to think how long it takes. Need better sling -- well, I need MUCH better perception - damn lack of foods.

Fox cannot break roundpole fence. also animals can attack differently. instead of attacking after building up the attack bar, ive had animals continue to attack and attack after my def bar is gone, instead of building up their atk bar.

Yes, animals are smart now and have learned the "spam punch/bite/scratch/whatever" technique :P

All animals break fence signs while they're attacking (red icon). On the other hand, all animals can be fenced in with signs to prevent them from escaping. This is most useful for attacking deer and maybe foxes early on, while you're boat hunting.

Let me make a little handy hunting "guide" :D

  • If you find a fox inland and can't safely kill it, your best bet is to build the actual fence, then sling or bow away. If at a shore, just fence behind it (see deer techinque)
  • If you find mouflons or aurochsen, wall YOURSELF in with a stone you can chip for ammo - herds do not retreat. If you're shooting from a boat, have fun, they won't run away. But I kill herds only for meat, the time required to kill them for LP just isn't worth it.
  • If you're killing boars, you need to get them to the shore, use mm from the boat until they run, then run after them and punch them from behind until they die (make sure you have full stamina before engaging boars). Even with only about 10 UAC, you should be able to kill them in 2-3 punches.
  • If you're killing deer ALONE, you need to aggro them to get them away from the herd and get them to the shoreline, then you drive away till they deaggro, quickly come back and fence behind them before they move and you can then sling/bow away safely until they die. If you're smart enough and able to dualclient, take an alt with you whose sole purpose is to make fence signs behind the deer while your main is building up his aim bar after getting the deer to the shoreline - you needn't drive away for this method, obviously...I actually prefer to just use MM on them until they stop attacking (green icon) and then I engage them in UAC - the trick is to get enough damage to kill them before they heal themselves, so you first gather 6 IP, use punch or strangle, use flex 5 times, use punch again - do this until you have full combat advantage (should be after 2-3 hits methinks). Once you have full CA, attack them once with a full attack bar (after 5 flexes) then again after about 2 flexes. I think that should work for anyone with semi decent UAC (I did it with about 100 UAC).
  • Bears have 2 techiques - either pelt away at them with a sling until they die (they won't run away cause you won't do enough damage in one hit) or use a bow, which will make the bear run pretty fast, maybe after the 1st hit. When it runs, you need to get out of the boat and just wait until it comes back. BUT, the trick is to get him to follow you to the shore preferably at a point that makes you able to get behind it and block off it's retreat. Once you do that you can use the same UAC technique as with deer (6 ip, punch, 5flex - repeat) until it's dead, it will never reaggro.

One thing to note, animals never reaggro YOU after you make them run away once, BUT if another player aggroes them after you've made them run, the animals WILL attack them. So if you're hunting in a party either make sure you all have aggro before you make an animal run away or make sure that person doesn't aggro after unless they can take it or have a deathwish :P

With this post, I leave you, Haven and Hearth, it was nice playing, loved W3, enjoyed some aspects of W4, but got screwed over by some people from the very start of this world and everything kind of fell apart so I've decided to take a break and come back in W5 :)
