Sounds like you might want some dorf fortress, unreal world RPG, or modded minecraft. Haven and Hearth has no difficulty without outside player interaction. You would just be eating STR food just to reach that bottom level of your mine or to demolish that brickwall you accidently placed.

If the game was offline or co-op all the timesinks would be gone and it would be fun.

That's of course not going to happen, the same arguement has been had on other games similar to this one like Eve online.

I'll never understand why Eve and this game want you to grind for so long to get anywhere, when the goal of both games is players building and destroying each others stuff...speed that up and everyone will accomplish so much more.

It's frustrating though that there aren't any amazing singleplayer games being made these days that have the scope and features of this one.

Though I highly recommend project zomboid...if it ever gets finished.

Off to play the game now...zoomed out looking at red squares and trying to click on pixels.

Because it's a journey, and not a destination?

If that was true all you vets would be starting fresh characters when you die instead of maintaining alts to replace your losses.

A month or two of work is all that should be required to reach end game, end game in this being running a large village, trading, going to war, and creating your empire. Not to mention being able to stay alive.

In Eve it will take you years, and most people quit after a few months from boredom.

People have real lives to contend with, and this is coming from a no-lifer...I can play all day everyday and I will get bored before I'm even able to experience the real game.

I'd imagine the majority of veterans have only started completely fresh when the worlds were reset and then they didn't have to worry about getting ganked by 600 str asshats. Try starting a fresh character now and see how far you get.

This game is even more anti-social than eve, nobody talks in game chat, everyone runs away when they see a person. The only method of grouping with others to survive is going out of game to the forums and hoping whoever answers your post is a decent person.

If this game or Salem for that matter is ever going to generate an income from a decent sized player base it's going to have to be a little more inclusive and not an old boys club.

Even with a new created char a Vet still has the knowledge how to play... even when a world gets reset... and thus they're always be ahead ...

I do start fresh chars spawning wild often - just for the fun of doing from scratch and also to meet ppl - outcome of it often is that i can give away stuff, hints or even places when i drown the char and see how different ppl i meet group together ... so much for "anti - social"

Prolly the best way to see it...

sure i'd better like to have 2 servers in Hnh like Wurm online - one for those peacefools like me and one for the Gank squads ;) instead of offline Coop, but ...

Avarice, you should probably stick to games that don't require long planning periods and lots of patience. You're right. You can't do anything in EVE in under six months.... I hear WoW has a new expansion coming out. You level up really fast there and get to slay dragons in just a few weeks. Maybe that's impressive enough for you. (lub me sum dragon slayin'!)

HnH does progress to the "end game" mechanics pretty quick. Once you find access to metals, have a farm, trees growing, livestock, and silk farms going, you're now at the end game. Other than gold and silver, most villages have this in 2-3 weeks tops. The rest is just trying to grind out as much quality as possible.

In regards to Avarice,
There are also the Elder Scrolls games. They're not MMORPGs..but there's still the 'end game' mechanic you seek.

Oh right, there are elements in this game/eve I dislike so I should go play WoW instead.

Ok then, no point discussing this any further with logic like that being thrown around.

As for Elderscrolls, I've played them all.

Unless it's an obscure indy game I've most likely played it.

I'll stop polluting this thread with my opinions now, since they just seem to bait responses I don't care for. :|

If you cannot take criticism well, then your best option is really to leave.

This game appears as though it is not for you. You seem to want a "The End."...you won't find it in this game. It's never ending. To some, once they get to the point that MagicMan pointed out, it is "The End" for them. Thus why there are many murderous 'jerks' out there in the Haven and Hearth world. Because those players either have gone through all of that, and wanted more of a challenge, or they just inspired to be that to begin with..but the latter is a tad irrelevant in what I am discussing..

Some 'vets' tend to wind up 'retiring' from the game itself and just hang around here on the forums to help new-comers out. Other 'vets' have been here since W1, so they have the knowledge first-hand of how to 'strategize' and get everything in the time-frame that MagicMan said.

So, this game really doesn't seem to be an option for you unless you're willing to put forth the effort into doing all of that. If you can't do that, then, there's the door. Noone is forcing you to stay here.
