Yeah, sure, let's do that!

Too bad Loftar has already stated multiple times the lag is a result of the coding, not the server hardware (but I anticipate a new server would help the slightest bit.)

Loftar will work on the server when he chooses to work on it, either get used to the lag or don't play. I thought it was okay for the 5 minutes I was in it. Crying for a new world will not help the slightest bit, and won't happen unless the inevitable strikes.
My son, walk not in the way unarmed; because thou knowest not when thy enemy shall come upon thee.

The absolutely massive and grinding amounts of lag seem to have passed, but there is still some heavy chunks hitting. It's at least playable, but it's still pretty frustrating, especially when hunting.

Don't forget more efficient server code... From what I've seen of the packets going in and out of my system, every time you want to lift an item, you have to ask the server to see if that's okay, and then the server will tell you what image to use for your cursor. The same for the crafting menu. Hell, even the happiness meter gets a good portion of bandwidth. Not that I don't find murdering chicks fun either.

Assuming that's true, I'd say that removing that meter would make a pretty big difference in the lag issues.

because from what i've heard, only when many players are online is it lagging much. 50 or so is fine enough, but the bigger the badder it gets.

Considering the happiness meter is something that is constantly calculated/processed/etc, and since it's not even used for anything, the short and long term benefits appear substantial if it were to be removed, with little to no repurcussions.

Not saying it should be removed forever, but it would certainly do the players some good if that were to be the case, until the server is re-optimized/fixed/replaced.

50 players is nothing. Don't count on HnH receiving an update though. Salem takes priority and even after that, this outdated build of HnH is unlikely to see major changes.

I haven't taken a microscope to the packet req's and responses right now, but it may be possible that a client mod could circumvent a lot of server work. Obviously the Lift icon is available to everyone and doesn't need to be sent by the server... unless the server actually holds a 'what this player has as their current selected action' state.
Not saying that'd fix anything, just a thought.

after OS upgrade the game is unplayable, best solution is to shut down the server until something will be done about those huge lags. :?
