I wouldn't even mind it for vandalism and theft, but for trespassing it's retarded.

It's specifically to stop people abusing tresspassing/theft scents to crash the server though.

I know what it's for. I just feel like there's a better way than to make me lose hhp everytime I have to walk through a claim.

Wouldn't a better solution be to limit the number of scents per type per character per minimap to some reasonable number?

Why not just make it so that claims and containers remember if your character has been on it.
Go on the claim = 1 tresspass scent
Go back on moves the scent or just leaves the original

Open a cupboard = 1 tresspass
Go off the cupboard and open it again = none

Items that have already been stolen from the cupboard and put back will not leave another scent, etc

This would also make it easier to judge the number of people who were involved in the theft/murder/whatever. I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing, just pointing it out. I, personally, think it would be pretty helpful.
