This debate inspired me to make some concept art for Hafen, depicting the special Yew tree and how it should have a supple bow and provide special ammo with "penetrating" qualities to bypass all possible hearthling defenses. The problem with what you guys are saying about crossbows is if it aims fast and is high damage it would be wicked unbalanced because you can just snipe someone over their wall cuz they didnt walk for 5 seconds.

The loosing damage over range is a good idea though. I feel like he wouldnt be able to add that though, but if he could I would support that

And not being able to shoot over walls could be really nice, but then you could have guys who never come out and cant ever be killed.

What i am saying is aim should be slow there should be a reload time but its high damaging and if you hit the target you get a kill or if its 10-15 tiles he gets nocked out or damaged so the player your attacking has a chance of running away if you missed a shot because he needs to reload for 8-10 seconds so its not to overpowered :)

Not being able to shoot threw walls would be stupid i can always shoot over the walls to hit you :?:

They should fix bows before adding crossbows. Also, Archery type combat I really feel like you should be able to draw the bow without clicking on an enemy and then aim it and wherever your mouse pointer is it will shoot like a projectile so people can dodge them and it will not drain when things move.

Yeah but the longbows are used for LONG range you would need to chance the game mechanics for the longbows
Because it gets more dam over the time its spending going to its target so you would need more then 20-30
Tiles for it to actually do dam

The thing that makes it hard is needing those high quality branches. if the bow quality is low its really pointless because it takes so long to draw.

So all of you want to be able to kill people inside the fortification, but without them being able to kill you back. Have I gathered this general opinion correctly? Well that hardly strikes me as fair. But rather than opine on the abstract concept of fairness in a game where murder is the only justice system. I will instead try to clarify my thoughts upon the concept of walls instead.

Straight shots would still be viable if the defenders are returning fire form platforms or towers. But the people inside the fortifications (the... courtyard?) would be unable to fire back. There, that better? Of course not, you want to take pot-shots at people who went afk to take care of some ghastly biological need... To show I am not entirely unreasonable to the needs of the murder-deficient, angled shots at reduced accuracy? ¦] as a bonus it reduces the friendly fire when you inevitably arrow people in pitched melee with your buddies... Unless you are flanking them, then it's probably better to do a straight shot. Or stab them.

As for the third objection, it has been noted but really, we already do this and nobody complains about it, it's called "double walling". Which this change would do nothing for. Nor the ancilliary suggestions of angling your shots.

Edit: I'd actually like to ask, will there be hörses in this update?

We've been developing for a good, long while, and will soon be ready to drop a fairly sizeable patch on y'all, containing, amongst other things, quite sizeable reworks of character proficiencies and the gluttony system. While we are not quite ready to release the patch yet, we do, nevertheless, feel an obligation to say something on the subject, if only to break an extended spell of radio silence. Thus:

The big news is that, for better or worse, we have decided to accompany the patch release with a complete character and map reset of all existing servers, that is to say a full wipe, and a clean start from scratch on a new server and map. All presently running characters and maps will thus be deleted before long.
