I felt a sudden need to waste my time and nerves expressing my two cents about the moneytization of Haven. And because no one cares you might as well just skip this post.
First of all, I have always loved Haven and Hearth and how it has provided immense amounts of free enjoyment for me and others. It is sad to realize that one day it is perhaps not going to be free but at the same time it's completely understandable and reasonable that jorb and loftar need to get some money out of their hard work. Turning a F2P game into something that can make some money is surely going to cause a outcry no matter how it is done and so a good discussion about it before it happens is likely a good idea and might maybe perhaps make the day Seatribe asks for our money a little bit more easily acceptable by us the playerbase (maybe).
The easiest(?) and perhaps the most often suggested one is arguably subscription fees of some kind. Personally I have always been very strongly against subscription fees of any kind, were they obligatory for playing the game or needed to play more than x amount in y time. On the other hand if we were to talk about some sort of voluntary subscription fees, giving for example acces to a secret forum or some reasonable amount of LP each month, I woulnd't have a problem with that. What I am very badly trying to say is: while subscription fees might be very effective way of gaining money of a game, it really drives a lot of people away. I couldn't justfity throwing money monthly, yearly of decadely into a game.
In my opinion (that no one cares about, I know) more acceptable way is a simple buy to play-model. Ask for one time purchase to gain access to the game. This might be accomppanied with something like character limit per account to make worst altholics and botters to buy more copies of the game. While not nearly as lucrative as a subsricption based model could be I feel like it would be more easily accepted by the public.
Third popular opinion that could work standalone or could be done alongside the B2P-model is microtransactions. I believe many of us would gladly throw some money at the screen to get some nice cosmetic items/skins. The "problem" of loosing them on character death could be solver by simply making them account bound, so that you could get them back at any time. Being cosmetic items the only problem this could potentially cause that there is no need to repurchase them but on the other hand not loosing them can make more people to purchase them in the first place.
Only time will tell what jorb and loftar decide to do about this (unless of course they suddenly decide to tell us!) but I do belive whatever solution they decide to go with will be best for their game. In the meanwhile I can just hope that is not subscription fees.
Now I will dig a hole and hide there forever in shame. See you when archaeologists find me!
