At first I was counting months before the release.
Then the weeks before the release.
Now I am counting days before the release.
:( It's a long wait, but still enjoying and playing the shit out of the current haven and hearth version.

Perhaps they haven't been a problem for you directly yet, but they are very much an issue and they are abused in ways that hamper the game in all forms.

They only need to limit hearth spawns by forcing players to raise children for spawns.

Any word of a server wipe on August 21st?

My friends and I were gonna start new characters alongside the update, but we'd prefer to start new with everyone else.

I saw somewhere "No world 8 on current version, world 8 will be hafen", but cannot provide exact link, sorry for that and correct me or provide source link if I was wrong, please.

Edit: nvm, I found it.

My current thoughts are to let the current server continue running alongside the new for a while until we decide to put it out of its misery (which could happen for a number of reasons), but that's not strictly a promise, mind you.

Loftar, please don't change your mind. I want to have more fun with my friends on current haven.

Haven 2.0 "is" World 8 and since development on the old version is done I imagine World 7 will just dink along until they decide to put it out of it's misery.

I like how you made the new trailer like the old one, very cute.

One question about the new spawning system, will you still be able to spawn at or near your ancestor's hearthfire? Since that is contiguous to one particular hearthling, I don't think that would enable any of the alt-farming aspects you want to dissuade with the new system.

HarryDresden wrote:I might go full traveler this world, hunting, scavenging, trading. Always wanted to do that.

I did that in the later half of world 3, and it was probably the most fun I ever had with the game. It was surprisingly sustainable and profitable, too. Of course you do need some peaceful developed settlements established to trade off of to make the most of being a nomad. Back in the day there was less focus on meta-gaming within the player community and the world had more small and mid-sized independent factions with influence over their own areas, instead of the few alliance blocs effectively spanning the world we have had the last few worlds (perhaps the lack of teleportation will alleviate this somewhat though). These large blocs, along with the increased use of foraging bots, made freelance foragers economically useless however, unless you arrange some specific deal with someone (or nowadays focus on pearls/curios, which are limited in your terrain to explore/travel in).

epicless wrote:A certain cost? Are we finally going to have useful mapping/direction-finding mechanics in-game? Cartography as a real profession would be great.

One problem with the old Cartography mechanics, was the items themselves were very bad performance-wise. They'd have to check on old minimap caches server-side to redraw the map as it was when it was drawn by the hearthling, and took forever to redraw. That, combined with the inability to label individual map items, made organizing and cataloging maps a nightmare. Once custom-client mappers became commonplace, and with the curio system removing any LP gain from cartography (a mistake in my opinion as initial inking of a map should be counted as discovery LP), effectively killed the Cartography system. Although without improvements to how the items themselves worked anyway, perhaps it should be left dead.
