Any idea if "formal roads" means roads that are spawned by map gen or roads made by players?

I'm going to assume formal roads means stone/brick roads created by the players, as opposed to dirt, maybe? I'd like clarification as well.

I'm fairly sure it means roads as in those we build with milestones in current H&H.

I cannot wait to set up a quick travel network in my mine/cave kingdom. We generally like to build underground, and this is going to make organizing along thoroughfares so much more efficient. There can be milestone banks to travel to general areas, and the 5-10 paths that diverge from there. Traveling to a trading post and established towns sounds like a blessing as well.

Well, we haven't really decided on the exact mechanics; it's quite possible that hearth secrets per se will remain so that you can kin and possibly also form a party with people, but in the case of the latter, there will at least not be any long-distance party arrows.

If you don't mind me asking, how much is long distance? Would party arrows exist, but only to a certain extent (e.g. disappear when outside the supergrid) or are they removed altogether?

Then if that's the case, will each milestone act as a crossroad or would it only allow you to teleport to either the beginning or end of the road?

They answered this somewhere. I'm a bit too strapped for time to look it up but essentially you'll be able to set a beginning and end and milestones setup in between can take you to either so that if your trip is interrupted you can pick it up again.
