It looks like the server has swapped to death. A scheduled shutdown once a day might help.
I know - this solution is terribly ugly.

server has crashed or something.. I keep getting a can't connect to server message every time I try to connect.. any idea when the server will be back up? .. also is there a way to easily find people me and 2 other friends are trying to get together.. but it seems impossible...

About the server, yes it has crashed, check the homepage of this website for the status.
