For building a plow, you get the ability to....plow. AMAZING HUH????

Hmmmm....To make a primitive doll, I have to give up my newly won bonesaw. Do I want the lp? or the tool?

...and people shouldn't assume these changes were used to combat bots.

You make things for the village, not for LP.

And your bot-detecting idea sounds like it wouldn't work. Just like captchas.

Make sure you don't have any fish around you either. I'm hungry and regretting the doll now.

Hi. I'm a pretty new player, so my opinion may not be weighty enough for you, but I'd thought I'd offer my 2 cents worth about the world 5 changes, anyway.

First, let me say that I will no longer play this game (and I actually really enjoyed it) and I am highly relieved that I hadn't yet recommended it to my gaming group. I saved myself some serious embarrassment by procrastinating. That being said, the reasons for my change of opinion are primarily that the very fun "Wurm"-like MMO I found has now become an unfulfilling "EVE"-like MMO. I hate EVE and the very idea that any game wants to reward me for NOT playing it. I have a crafter nature, and I enjoy feeling fulfilled for my play-time. When I craft all of the things I need to survive and thrive in a crafting MMO I want to feel like all my work has been well worth my time. When I play EVE online, I feel that I get far more accomplished while OFFline than while actually playing the damned game, as I now feel with Haven & Hearth. This reason is why I personally will not play this game anymore (it is no longer the kind of game I want to play).

The second reason, and the only reason why I am glad I did not recommend it to my gaming group, is that I feel that my interests have been betrayed. When the developers of an MMO change the fundamental nature of something as basic as character advancement into an altogether different progression model, I simply cannot trust those developers any longer. My gaming group would have my head if I had recommended this game to them and they had been betrayed like this (we're pretty serious gamers, as you can likely tell). Now, this game is not finished, and that lends some credibility back to the developers, but since the game is in OPEN alpha, there are some essential ethics which should be maintained, and failing to adhere to those ethics can be (and should be) highly damaging to a developer's reputation. For example: FunCom spent years trying to recover from it's initial Anarchy Online launch, and it did recover, but only because after failing their customer base they went away, closed down, shut the door...then they made their changes and when they were ready they ASKED their customer base to come back, and spent money and time promoting their improved product. What they did NOT do was to flip a switch on their existing customer base and EXPECT them to accept all their changes.

This game is free, of course, and it's still in alpha, so we should cut the devs some slack, but not too much. Anyway, there were my two cents. Don't bother flaming me - I don't care and won't respond in petty fashion. But if you have something constructive to say, please do.

EDIT: I thought the game was in beta, but it is in alpha. Everything above should now properly reflect my opinion.

It's not. It's alpha.

Debunked your wall of text in four words.

Exactly! 18k was a GREAT reason to kill bears. Now what?
The old system was good. The new system is so awesomely interesting. Why not put them together in a way one would complete the other?

Currently if you can get LP in any of the ways we used to be able to, it is easily macroed, that is easily a problem. It is also easy for dumdums to surpass superior intellects due to sheer numbers. Now it's not so much the case, but will be again soon I assume.

That's why I said "put them together in a way one would complete the other". With that I mean mixing the very best of of both systems.
All this study thing and the need to see stuff before a certain recipe becomes avalaible really amazed me. But to completly extinct the old LP-earning system? I'm sure that's gonna bring meaninglessness to lots of actions in this new world.
