So Im new here and all but i downloaded the client a couple of days ago and still haven't been able to log on to the server even though the server appears to be up. Is there anything that I have to change in the java client itself to connect to the server?

what client did you download? the default web one needs the autohaven file to be opened with Java Web Start Launcher...
