I'm on a boat in the wilderness and was fishing when the server crashed. Is there some kind of fail-safe to ensure that my character doesn't die/get killed after the server comes back up? Because I won't be on for another 12 hours or so. Should I just expect to lose everything by the time I log on again tomorrow?

I can pay for good service. I will not pay bribes to get things working.

The first step would be to change the server from some home-pc to a real service provider =) That could also help for the enormous lag

The previous times the server has crashed over the last few days I've been in a boat twice. One fishing and when I got back everything was perfectly fine, except I did log back on within about 20 minutes of the server coming back up.
The second time it crashed it was only down for about 20 minutes and I got in fairly quickly, but I was carrying a second boat as a gift to a neighbor.. it disappeared for all eternity.

Could the admins make an estimate on how long the server will be down and put it on the homepage?

as soon the devs see the crash they will work on it (intead of an estimate)
the point is rather when they will get out of bed/work...

Take forum time and minus 5 hours to get a good estimate for the probability of someone being around to restart the server.
