Do we really need SOIL and WATER quality?
Quality is ok for crafted items (even if it's going to add a metric ton of grinding), but quality for everything? It seems like you are just trying to over-complicate everything for the sake of realism.

We really, really do. The coming map is a lot more taxing on stamina than the present. Water will, to compensate, be made drinkable from water flasks and skins for a small stamina regain (Water isn't tea, but it'll be useful). Water quality will of course be a determinant on not only how much stamina you'd regain from drinking it, but, perhaps more importantly, if you get sick or not from drinking it (Diseases will come later, with buffs, though). Water quality will also be important for anything crafted from water.

And, really, how can there be prime farmland without soil quality?

The broader point is that the quality system is designed so that crafted items derive their quality mainly from the raw materials used in their production. For obvious reasons, this means that raw materials must, of course, have quality levels in themselves.

yea, it makes sence, one of the major issues that made trade kinda redundant to large towns was they were all the same. now because of quality of water, land and other things like gold and silver mines ect, no town "in theory" will have the best of everything.. so if it wants better stuff it will have to trade with towns that have a different speciality.

With gold and silver, can we take the silver, smelt it for ever and get mithril, either that or make a mine with mithril and a giant monster.

Water in vodka, for example.
Better water = less painful hangovers.

I think water should be top quality by default, and quality should be reduced by pollution. So a downside to living in an estuary (best location for a town IMHO) would be complete lack of potable water. This could be solved by building an aqueduct that brings water from the mountains to the town. I think any incentive to take on megaprojects like aqueducts is welcome.

I hope stamina decreases slower than on the old map while walking with speed 3. Especially a much bigger Map makes it more difficult to trade without more stamina, increases the "logout-problem" and will be very annoying over time. :|
