You want to make the northern wastes not... waste-y? Because when I looked around the area to the north that wasn't TOO far from civilization, almost all of the trees were cut down without anyone having used the logs and all the boulders were vandalized into either querns or stupid runestones.

Though with this change, it means that boulders are now our only significantly finite resource.

Firs, on the other hand, will spread tiny amounts of forest terrain around them when they grow, so that they can be "used" to regain spoiled forests (but they still grow slowly on anything but forest terrain).

< stupid question >
A thought occurs that this means eventually the whole world might become forest tiles (though not necessarily with any tree in it), could it be that apple trees spread grassland to balance this (or was that implied by the above?)

I don't think that's a stupid question at all.

Well, people can make grassland fairly easily themselves, whereas they can't make forests as such.

Well I've not seen anything to say that forest does revert to grassland when a tree it cut down... maybe it is still a forest but with not tree? In that case you'd still get forest animals and the like rather than grassland animals... and if firs make grassland forest then we'd end up with only forest animals the world over if there isn't a similar balancing forest to grassland conversion...

it takes alot of effort to make grassland into forest, wherass it takes way less effort to make forest into grassland/desert

so I dont think anymore "counter" measureswould be needed

They only create forest terrain when they actually grow, which can only happen by player interaction (I have considered making firs autogrow in forests, but I haven't decided yet), so, no, they won't fill up the map automatically.

I don't know if it has already been asked or addressed, but do planted trees grow to the full size like the trees that were originally there?

I understand that they can be blocked by other graphics, but there is a replanted forest to the south of my claim (the forest just east of bottleneck) where none of the trees seem to be getting to full size. They all appear to be stuck on the stage (I assume) that is just before full size. I haven't cut any of them down because I would like them to reach full size before I do anything like that, but I have been there for almost a RL week and they have been that size for that entire time.

Are they bugged or is there something I am missing about them getting bigger?

If a tree doesn't have any space to grow, it'll stop growing.

Thin the place out a bit.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.
