The idea itself wasn't flawed it was just fucked up the way it was done, same with this system, there may indeed be merit to going with a mix, and I guess when we start to see more people breaking the shit out of the current system, we'll eventually either see better implementation or again a whole 'drop it and change' deal like W5.

I enjoyed the old system, but if people can bot to absurd combat skills i really want no part of it =s

Only if they do an open client again will this happen and it might happen faster this time sense we already know how to. Though a 3D one might be more interesting.

As long as the client is in Java, it's pretty much an open book, anyway.

Also: 3D display != 3D environment.

Yea, the few [alpha] screens that have been released do not show a 3d environment; everything is flat. Although the "mountaineering" skill would imply that there are cliffs somewhere out there.

Relying on area transitions for houses and the like does not help this, that's just one more 3d element removed from the game.

You get my point though (that's my alt that I accidentally log onto sometimes). Plus you might not be able to mod away walls. Though I guess yeah if its Java its just up to reverse engineering it.

We know that the newbie area will be separated from the main world by a mountain you can only climb with sufficient growth in the mountaineering skill. It's possible but it seems like such a waste to have those features built into the game and designed and then to never use them beyond that.

Just because there are cliffs it doesn't mean there will be a z-axis, the world could be logically flat with the cliffs simply being ground that's displayed a bit differently and needing special skills to cross.
Once a man has changed the relationship between himself and his environment, he cannot return to the blissful ignorance he left. Motion, of necessity, involves a change in perspective.

This is a possibility I didn't even consider. I'm still hoping beyond hope for a 3D Environment all the same.

In the interview, I'm pretty sure Jorb said the ground/land is deformable making a z axis necessary right?

Visually we're guaranteed it's 3D and that it's going to have a Z axis. Whether or not the Z axis will have any practical or in-game purpose we don't know.
