I read just about this entire thread, but I'm brand new (circa 3 days) and I was hoping someone could confirm that we will need to start fresh characters? It's clear that the world will be reset, and Jorbtar also made it clear that we wouldn't need new accounts.

I'll be honest, I've been off work the past 3 days and have played around 10-12 hours per day. :oops: Absolutely love the game. I completely understand if everything needs to start fresh for the new release, though. It's just that since I'm so new, I might want to talk to the few folks I've meet whom I've been working with and offer them my things, then take off for a month. Not sure I want to build up before wipe, as it might cause burnout when the fancy new release happens.

As a last thought, I'm bummed that there'll be no easy way to find the great couple folks I've met in my first few days when the new release hits. Of course, I won't have any complaints until I actually play the game. :D

Thanks for any help!

EDIT: I've spoken to a couple people and I'm now 100% clear on it being a whole new ballgame. I do wonder when the original Haven server will be taken offline, though.

It's funny how you think he was being ironic. That is the real irony.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Less than a month left... can't wait! never thought there'll come a summer when I'd wish the days passed so fast :D

I haven't played for a while now, so I guess now's the best time to come back and get those old-rusted hnh-ing gears turning again. Just a 2-3 week warmup of basic early survival, then a quick rest before Hafen hits, so I can start anew without a trace of burnout.

I feel I'll need some days off work, too :P or maybe it's just the hypetrain rocking :P

@oddshocks;

Half the fun is the challenge of coordinating and gathering groups of people, hunting resources, and the rush of new world exploration. At this point, large groups can send out dragnets of people and bots to hunt the highest possible resources with ease, this adds a new layer of complexity for those large groups, and especially for smaller ones too.

You'll be on even footing more or less when it comes to the new system.

Enjoy the game at a casual pace for now, and have fun. Make something awesome, don't worry too much about resource.
