It's too much to expect them to be on call all day for the sake of a game that doesn't pay their bills, and unfortunately since tinkering with the server probably requires physical proximity, it'd probably be out of the question to authorize people in other timezones to fix things like this. If you don't like the game shutting down now and then, donate. More money means more stable servers. And remember it's just an alpha.

Indeed, its kind of unrealistic to expect them to be at the community's beck-and-call 24/7; but at the same time, speaking from my own perspective, I'd still want something to at least alert me to a crash, if only for the sake of courtesy to the internation community of people that are interested (and will undoubtedly be funding any further progress) in my game. Also, suggesting people donate to improve service is abit of a crapshoot with internet-based games in my experience - providing money does not gaurantee an improvement in services... though it certainly isnt likely to hurt.

Seeing as its a free, alpha-phase online game, I can't say I'm too peeved... but, I cant say I dont want to be playing right now either, hehe.

Reflecting on what folks have said:

Is it possible via real time to be alerted to a server crash?

Yes it is, I am an IT Specialist, and such technology and tools exist, open source, and are readily available. SMS is a rather very unsophisticated technology, and easy to deploy.

As for remarks concerning Alpha...

Such is a generalized term in the indie community. Its a "says all, catch all phrase". I have been in the industry long enough to know. Ive been playing/developing 3d Models for another indie game since 2003, and we still call it Alpha material today.

Donations are nice, they do help. But your best bet is all working together as a community in a combined effort. If you want the developers to do something, you have to get their attention. Make them offer. We want "x" and we need to know how much of "y" you need to make "x" possible, therefor if we gather and pool enough "y", will you make "x" possible? Such is a grand question, and you'll find it gets you farther than complaining.

Yar, I am completely addicted to this game after only playing it for a single day. Now I'm about a week in and on my second life with only a mere 90k LP and I actually caught my myself dreaming about the stuff that's happened in the game as well as things that I plan on doing.

Yet for the last two nights running I've woken up to find that the server just crashed. I mean literally. I wake up, day off from work, use the shitter and get on the PC with a cup of water to find the server crashed 10 minutes prior. Do some other stuff, come back in an hour.. Not up.. hour later.. still not up.. later still finally comes up! Sweet! Play for a long time with a few friends, more epic shit happens that makes me love the game even more. Bunch of Russians had a large settlement strangling the river trade in our area.. literally strangling all the river traders one at a time until a group of these Germans come through ask to trade, but when they were attacked they instead decided to completely wipe out the entire Russian settlement... and did it with odds 2r to 1g each.. I finally found out how to fish for Plaice, but our farmer told me that he's finally got a metric ass ton of carrots set up and to quit wasting my time.

Then on my way back with a handful of Plaice I see a bear by the water within a few minutes of our settlement, I'm the last of our group to get a bear kill and I had spent a total of 2 days (in game time) searching the water ways mapping out our area looking for bear and had found nothing. I began to hop for joy in my chair and continue home to get bow and arrows only to notice the boat wasn't moving.. the server crashed with me in my boat in the middle of the river. I raged.

Yeah, I'm completely addicted.

Omg dude, I so know how you feel. This damn game, you know its wrong, yet you are powerless to stop it.

Ah, to be a newbie again... It's looking back on ones childhood.

However. I finally had my first shower of the week. I've been playing HnH for 15 hours minimum every day. EVERY. DAY. Except monday, I had to go to town for food.

No. I don't work. Currently waiting for a course to come up that will get me my job - which is at the end of February!

im addicted as well... server isnt up, fml i recently started playing this bc my car is in the shop and im stuck at home... guess now i actually have time to do some homework... btw my right shoulder is killing me i believe its from playin h&h 12 hours straight ever day no joke wake up at 11am stay up till 11 at night (would be on long if it wasnt for my step dad turning off the modem... damn him, literally the only time i get up is when i half to take a leak but even then i make sure im cutting a tree down that way its done by the time i get back this game is the sh*t.. but i must amit i have no life now lmoa
